Mousey

Today's post is in memory of mousey❤️mousey died last night (2/15/2024) and it seems so silly, but i'm having a really hard time with it😢💔we really loved mousey and it's one of my favorite aiden stories so i'll tell it again. aiden was helping gr. ruby move pipe in her pasture one day, and a couple tiny pink mice fell out of a pipe. aiden asked her what they should do with them, and she said "oh, just go chuck them in that garbage can over there." which . . . i mean, it's farm life. nobody cares about a couple nasty field mice, they're bad for everything . . . and i'm pretty sure most teenage boys would have been delighted to just stomp them right there.....except aiden. we still don't know how he finished moving the rest of the pipe with those baby mice tucked away somewhere, but later that afternoon, he called me asking if he could bring home a couple baby mice. i was like, "well . . . i mean, i have no idea what to do with baby mice. they'll just die anyway." totally thinking he'd just forget about them and let it go. well, he didn't and later came home with these two baby mice in a little cup with some shredded up kleenex. i had no idea what in the world we'd even do with them, but we did some research and i told him i'd do my best to help him with them. well, long story short, we fed them kitten milk every 2-3 hrs day and night from a tiny dropper and kept them warm with a heating pad that had to be reset every couple hours. i have no idea how those things lived, but they did. they both lived for a few months, and then one of them died, probably a survival of the strongest type of thing, but we've had mousey for 2 years and 5 months since they came home with aiden that day. normally, mice only live 3-4 months on average in the wild, and maybe 2 years max in captivity (from what i've read.) so mousey really did live the best life. you guys helped aiden build him a little ladder and we bought him a mouse wheel that he loved to run on. aiden had such a good heart. he was so kind and cared for even the lowliest of creatures. i hope he got to welcome mousey to heaven last night❤️😢 i'll be forever grateful for the time spent with him raising mousey❤️
